Dr. Erica McIntosh

DR. ERICA MCINTOSH
Clinical Director

Dr. Erica McIntosh is a social work research-practitioner whose work spans research, psychotherapy, and teaching to promote mental health among Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. She serves as an Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University and as an Assistant Professor at California Baptist University in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Dr. McIntosh integrates her clinical experience into her research, which centers on identifying factors contributing to the disproportionate burden of depression and other diagnosable mental health disorders among African Americans. Her scholarship emphasizes the promotion of mental and physical health equity for BIPOC populations.

In addition to her focus on health equity research, Dr. McIntosh utilizes community-based research models to develop mental health interventions in partnership with community mental health and physical health agencies. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Ashford University, her Master of Social Work from California State University, Northridge, and her Doctorate in Clinical Social Work from California Baptist University, where her research focused on health equity.

Dr. McIntosh previously served in federal employment at the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System, where she held multiple leadership roles, including Team Lead in the HUD-VASH program, member of the Health Equity and Health Disparities teams, Acting Director of the Clinical Supervision Team, and Clinical Supervisor. She is currently leading funded research through a $1.5 million grant from First 5 in collaboration with the NAEBOR Clinic for Black Maternal Health and Mommy and Me, aimed at improving mental and physical health outcomes for pregnant Black mothers.

She also serves as the Clinical Director for the Reaching New Heights Foundation, supporting justice-informed veterans and individuals through the reintegration process. Dr. McIntosh is the CEO and owner of a private practice focused on BIPOC mental health, consultation, and community-based presentations. Additionally, she is a contracted Clinical Supervisor and a proud disabled United States Air Force Veteran. She is a contributing author to the textbook Infusing Social Justice into Social Science Practice, with publications in Chapters 14 and 16.
